Scot Borofsky at Jules Goldman Books and Antiques
Scot Borofsky's abstractions are contemporary - obviously - but steeped in history. The artist cites a wide range of artistic influences, Western and non-Western, ancient and modern. The art of Africa, pre-Columbian Latin America, and ancient China guides his brush, as do the approaches of the Philip Guston and the Dadas, to name a few examples. The breadth of his interests owes itself to his intense study of symbols, a guiding influence even in his early days of uncommissioned urban installations (read: graffiti). Glyphs of personal significance appear and reappear throughout his works, tying them as exclusively to their creator as the marks of his hand.
